I am Sheena. But my friends often call me “Shins”. I live and work in the Middle East for nine years now, since January 2007. With a commitment to help my family financially, I pushed myself to get out of the box and took adventure of the place I’ve never heard of – Abu Dhabi.
My life has full of bumps and fun. But all through those years in the Middle East, God has directed my path. Year in and year out, I have experienced God's faithfulness in this journey. He is indeed my Great Guidance.
To sum it all, here are some miletones in my life in Abu Dhabi that I will always treasure.
2007: I came to United Arab Emirates as a tourist. After a few weeks of looking for a job, I was hired as a Project Assistant in a construction company called Consolidated Contractors Company (CCC). I was involved in a gas pipeline project called Eastern Gas Distribution System.
2008: I became actively involved in Christ’ Green Pasture Ministry International Church – Abu Dhabi Chapter. I was part of the Music Team as an acoustic guitarist.
2009: Used to have a ”come-what-may” thinking. But my life was changed upon one realization: Make My Life Worth Living: Start Off with a Godly Planning. I started to plan to build a dream house for my parents. I wanted to honor them and I knew that this house will make them happy. I started saving money to finance that dream through proper budgeting and lived below my means. I read books and articles about personal finance. At the end of the year, I was able to save a good amount, but not enough for the house budget.
2010: At the first quarter of the year, I was able to build the dream house for my parents (photo taken Dec 2015). The amount rose further. God did wonders beyond comprehension. God promoted my salary grade from Band 6 to 7, plus the company gave a 2-hour overtime pay (which actually, I did not do OT works). After my 3-year contract, I left the company, however, they gave me an unexpectedly huge gratuity pay. All these have added to my house budget. I moved to Allen & Shariff Corp., a project management company managing the Al Mafraq Hospital project.
2011: I was awarded as the Best Employee by SEHA (Abu Dhabi Health Services). It was a happy moment. It's only by God's grace because my service was only clerical, but God has made me shine in the dessert land. At the second quarter of the year, I took my younger brother in Abu Dhabi to work. Thank God, he found a job in CCC and started his journey in UAE.
2012: I got engaged to an Artist. I came to know him way back in 2007 and started as friends. We did church ministries together. On the other side, I immersed myself to personal finance; read a lot of articles about investments.
2013: Got married to a wonderful husband on January. I took my other younger brother to Abu Dhabi to work and blessedly, he found a job as a Safety Officer. In Q4 of the year, we got rid off of all our financial obligations and ended the year with a debt-free life!
2014: God has given us a wonderful anniversary gift - our sweet little Angel - Seth Nathaniel. His name means "God, who is above all, answers prayers". We started investing in the Philippine stock market. Our aim is to invest for the long term. God has blessed me, my husband and my two brothers new jobs. Praise God.
2015: Beginning of the year, God has given me a very promising job where I can have more time with my little angel. I was able to meet people in prime positions. I learned and continue to learn from this field (building business relationships). 2015 was also a great year for us, as family. We were able to put up a college fund thru PhilEquity for our Seth. I had few preaching assignments where I saw God's loving hands in preparing the message. Our BS group was divided in two to cater for the new comers. And before the year ends, we were able to visit Jordan and saw it's magnificent biblical places.
With all that has been said above, I owe everything to God. By His grace, I was able to experience and become victorious in every way!
My adventure continues; and I will write as life unfolds. I hope that through my blogs, it's God who will be glorified.
I'm excited to the things in store for me by my Heavenly Father!
