Having Baby in UAE (for Pinoy Expats) Part 1

I gave birth to a healthy baby boy last September 2014. I would like to share the steps in acquiring his necessary papers.

Birth Certificate in HAAD (Health Authority in Abu Dhabi)
Since I delivered in a private hospital, I have to process myself his birth certificate.For government hospitals, they will provide you right away the HAAD birth certificate. Requirements are as follows:

  1. Birth Certificate Application form: you will get it in HAAD office.
  2. Original Notification of Live Birth (from the hospital). Provide the hospital a copy of marriage certificate,  passports and emirates IDs of parents. 
  3. Original and Copy of Marriage Certificate; attested by Department of Foreign Affairs Philippines, UAE Embassy in the Philippines and Ministry of Foreign Affairs in UAE (AED 150). The MFA UAE is located in Marina Mall, below Paris Gallery.
  4. Original and Copy of Parents' passports, residence visas and emirates IDs
  5. Arabic and English BC costs AED 50 each.
  6. HAAD Office is located at the back of Carrefour in Airport Road.
  7. Once you receive the BC, go to MFA UAE for the English BC attestation (AED 150).




Report of Birth (Philippine Embassy)
Before applying for a passport, you must first apply his report of birth in the Philippine Embassy. Requirements are as follows (4 copies):

  1. Four (4) copies of duly accomplished (typewritten in capital letters with each form having the original signature with full names and including the mother’s maiden name) Report of Birth form downloaded from the website at http://www.philembassy.ae/downloadforms.html);
  2.  Original and three (3) copies of the UAE Birth Certificate duly attested or stamped by the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs;
  3.  Three (3) copies of the parents’ valid passports;
  4.  Three (3) copies of the parents’ attested (by the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs; if married outside the Embassy but within the UAE) Marriage Certificate or Report of Marriage (if married outside of the UAE, the Marriage Certificate must be first attested by the foreign embassy concerned then by the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs);
  5.  Attestation fee of 200 AED.
  6. It will take 7 calendar days before you can claim the Report of Birth.

Passport (Philippine Embassy)
You must bring your baby to the Embassy. Appointment for newborn is not required. Requirements are as follows:
  1.  Duly accomplished Passport application form by either parent.
  2. One (1) photocopy of the Marriage Contract of the parents.  Note: Also bring and show the original Marriage Contract, duly stamped by the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs (if married in the UAE) or duly authenticated by the DFA-Manila (if married in the Philippines); 
  3. One (1) photocopy of the Birth Certificate issued by the UAE Ministry of Health, duly stamped by the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs;
  4. One (1) photocopy of the Report of Birth issued by the Embassy; This should be accomplished at the Embassy by the parent/s prior to applying for the child’s ePassport.
  5. One (1) photocopy of the Passport of the parent/s; and
  6. Passport fee of 240 AED.
  7. It will take 2-3 months before you can claim the passport. For the status, you can check at the PE website. 
        Residence Visa, Emirates ID, etc (follow the part 2 of this article).
